How to choose the right boarding kennel facility?

If you are planning to be out of town for a while, choosing dog boarding facility  is one of the most important decisions you will be required to make for it. One way of having your dog taken care of while you are gone is by choosing a boarding kennel. However, having that in mind, there a number of factors you need to consider when choosing a dog boarding kennel since you will be leaving your dog under the care of someone you don’t know well.

Here are some tips and things you need to consider in your search for the right boarding kennel

1. Take a tour of the dog boarding facility

Once you have obtained a list of boarding kennels to consider, you will want to make a visit. Call before and ask if they give tours to pet owners or not; this will be a good indicator to know whether to take your dog or not. A good boarding kennel will provide you with an opportunity to visit them and take a look at what they offer and their facilities. Some of the things you should be on the lookout when you visit include cleanliness, smells, caring and knowledgeable staff members, litter boxes and size of the indoor and outdoor run.

2. Medication and Monitoring Health

Some people have their pets under medication taking drugs every day. It is important to ask and know if the facility will offer this option. Some will charge a fee for this while others will do it for free. Monitoring the health of your pet is important while you are not there. Make sure that the staff are friendly and will offer this service.

3. Will The Boarding Kennel Let You Bring Your Own Food?

Ask this question before you bring your dog. If they allow that, make sure you are not charged an extra fee though some facility will charge

4. Paying For Service

Before you leave, ensure that you have everything in writing. This will prevent instances that you are asked to pay some extra fee when you are back that you had no idea about.

Bottom Line

Choosing a dog boarding kennel facility for your pet is easy, what might be a little more difficult is choosing the right boarding facility for your pet.

Research and find the best for your dog according to its needs.
